Some historic-preservation opportunities

The following projects would qualify for funding under the Community Preservation Act if Arlington adopts Question 5.
  • Town Hall—window replacement and weather protection, restoration of historic detail in auditorium, Cyrus Dallin flagpole and fountains restoration;
  • Restoration of the Bow for the Dallin’s Menotomy Hunter;
  • Old Burying Grounds—grave and crypt structural repairs, wall repair and rebuilding, historic landscape plan for tree planting;
  • Jefferson Cutter House, home of the Arlington Chamber of Commerce and the Cyrus Dallin Museum—structural repair and waterproofing of the east wall of the building, structural repair of the two chimney foundations, repair of the front door, renovate of the galleries and walls of the museum after the flooding, new roof and gutters;
  • Renovation of the Senior Center;
  • Renovation of the Foots of the Rocks Memorial, site of the largest battle of the American Revolution;
  • Exterior Repairs for the Arlington High School;
  • Mt. Pleasant Cemetery Chapel Building—structural and waterproofing repairs;
  • Robbins Library—based historical preservation projects, such as digitizing historic papers of Arlington, including the Arlington Advocate, to make a valuable, searchable database of local history.
In addition the following historic resources not owned by the Town of Arlington would qualify for funding under the Community Preservation Act if Arlington adopts Question 5.
  • 50 Pleasant Street, Town Counsel’s Office—structural repairs to the back of the building;
  • The Jason Russell House—foundation work, roof work and site improvements;
  • The Old Schwamb Mill·—new roof on the dry house, replace rotten window sills on main Mill Building, repaint trim on main Mill building, re-grade bank behind the Barn
