Some affordable-housing opportunities

The Housing Corporation of Arlington has 1,000 people on its waiting list for affordable housing. Most are Arlington residents. The HCA’s aim has been to buy multiple-family units throughout Arlington and renovate them for a lottery for those on the waiting list.

The most recent project that they completed is the Capital Square project in East Arlington on Massachusetts Avenue.

The following projects would qualify for funding under the Community Preservation Act if Arlington adopts Question 5.

• Home Ownership seminars for first time home buyers;
• Downing Square—a 27-unit new construction project invited to submit by the state at Park & Lowell running along the bike path. HCA has a Purchase and Sale agreement;
• 26 Westminster— HCA has a Purchase and Sale agreement on the old church building with plans to convert to at least 10 units of affordable housing;
• 1117 Mass Ave—HCA signed a Purchase and Sale agreement to purchase and renovate this historic house into either a seven bedroom group home for TIL or into three affordable housing units;
• 117 Broadway—HCA has signed a Purchase and Sale agreement for the parcel with the intent to develop it into affordable housing in the future.
